Prayer of a Student Teacher

A Student Teacher's Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

I thank you for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this school and the community within it. Thank you for bringing my students to this classroom safely. I pray for humility as I learn from my mentor teachers. Please give me a discerning heart so I know when to incorporate the teaching practices I observe and when to rely on my own knowledge. Help me find the right words to say as I encourage Your children to think critically, explore freely, and care for each other always. Provide me with an awareness of my biases and privileges so I can provide equitable education. For those who return to broken homes, I pray that they learn that their reality is not indicative of their value. For those who are struggling with big emotions, Lord I ask that you give me the tools to help me share my peace with them. If danger strikes today, Lord, let me shelter my students and protect them from harm. Allow me to highlight their strengths and support them in their struggles. Above all else Lord, let me look to You and Your infinite wisdom always.

In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

My Curriculum Vitae

A Brief Description of the Site of Practice Teaching

San Roque National
High School

My Reflection:

We always say that the school is the second home of a children. Our parents make sure that the school should be safe and the quality of teaching is good. The tuition in the school should be affordable for anyone especially for those who were less fortunate. I think the San Roque National High School had these characteristics for those students who had a lack of financial assistance that wants to study with lower tuition.
I am impressed to the officials in that time who were strived to sustain this school for the benefit of the people of Paombong. They were the pillar of this school. Many people of the Paombong were happy because they have a high school that is nearer to their home and the tuition is budget friendly compare to private high school. It is an opportunity for the students who had lack of financial assistance that wants to have an education. I would say that this school is helpful for the youth of Paombong. I observed that the rate of out of school youth nowadays were down compared before this school were built. When it comes to safety, this school had a good security for the students and school personnel. For the facilities, it was good enough and the materials for learnings like books, computer and other learning materials were accessible for all students of the school. Even though that it is not my alma mater, I would say that San Roque National High School is the school that will give you a chance to experience the good quality of education if you are in the upper class, middle class or lower class in the society.

Examples of Lesson Plans Used

My Semi-Detailed Lesson Plans

My Reflection:

Every time I create my lesson plans, I wish that the students will learn from it. So, I do my best in doing it. I want to become an efficient teacher so it is important for me to learn on how to perfect it. Before I wrote my plan in lesson plan book, first is I read the topic and I will make it in a draft. It is my routine in doing lesson plans to check and correct it before I pass it to my cooperating teacher.

As a student teacher I should learn on how to do a great lesson plan. But sometimes when Ma’am Susie check my lesson plan, she seen few mistakes on it. Every time I see the marks of mistakes, I say to myself that I should improve these mistakes. My cooperating teacher said to me that I should never be fear mistakes because I am starting in teaching experience. I remember what she said but I would never forget to improve those mistakes. I realized that I should learn from my mistakes because these mistakes will push me to work harder. I will also improve my writing in cursive take more readable and easy to understand.

Evidences of Community Outreach

My Reflection:

It was Thursday, November 23, 2017, the Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) has an activity/project namely “National Environmental Awareness Month: Clean Up Drive”. The afternoon classes were cut and this clean up drive activity was started at 4:00 pm. All of the students were encouraged by officers of the mentioned organization to participate in cleaning the whole surroundings of the school. Many students were participated but others were not. We, the student teachers were clean the part of covered court and we sweep all the trashes like plastics, dried leaves, dust, and we remove the grasses in that part of the school.

As a student teacher, I will also participate because it was an activity in the school. I want to help in cleaning and bringing the school in an orderly condition. It is part of my role as a future teacher. I realized that it should train myself to participate in any activities of the school like this activity. The teacher should be the role model of the students so I would do this for my students. Lastly, the teacher should be the leader or guide of all activities in the school. As a future teacher, I should be conscious on the environment nowadays and be the one who participate in cleaning the areas of community.

Best Lesson Plan using creative strategy with the complete set of materials

My Best Lesson Plan

My Reflection:

I choose this lesson plan to be my best lesson plan because I do my best in doing it for me get a praise in my cooperating teacher. It is also my presented lesson plan in final demonstration teaching. I used teaching strategies such as using technology tools and real-life learning. I used these strategies because it will help me to teach my students in a good way. I believe that using strategies will help the students to be motivated in learning process. My cooperating teacher was impressed on that lesson plan. My students said that my motivation in that lesson plan was helpful to motivate and energize the students before the learning process and by that I was happy she said it. I realize that I would work harder in doing lesson plans to improve my ability in doing it. It is the most important tool of a teacher. It should be followed in a classroom setting because it is a plan and you should follow it to refrain from mistakes in teaching the subject matter.

Sample of Learner's Work and Feedback

A. Sample of Learner's Work

My Reflection:

There’s a group performance I gave in the students and it was entitled “Ipaglaban Mo!”. Every group has done a role playing, spoken poetry, news reporting, group singing but there’s only one group who done a poster making. It was the group 4 of 10-Diamond. The topic of group 4 is “Karapatan sa Trabaho ng mga LGBT”. I was amazed in that poster because I see the efforts of my student named Laurence. Although it is a group activity, his groupmates have done a spoken poetry and slogan. I graded them individually even if they are group. Laurence were always the delegate of the San Roque National High School when it comes in poster making because he got a talent in drawing. He was done it in a one whole illustration board and I was shocked because it is huge and it is hard to draw in that size of illustration board. He said that he does it in 3 hours.

He explained the meaning of his poster in 5 minutes and he said many words about it. But there’s only one quote I remembered in his explanation, it is “Lahat ng tao ay may kalayaan na pumili ng trabaho at may karapatan na tanggapin sila na napili nilang propesyon mapa-lalaki, ma-babae o LGBT.”. For me, it was the important thing that we should do. We should accept the LGBT in many professions and in the society. They said that the teacher was also learned in the students. And it was happened to me everytime I read their seat works/activities and watching their performance. You were a teacher when you do not accept the knowledge or experiences that shared by the students. I think I’m already a teacher because I learned in my students everyday because they were sharing their knowledge and experience in my class everyday.

B. Learners' Feedback

My Reflection:

In my last day at San Roque National High School as a student teacher, my cooperating teacher said that I would have a thank you letter from all of my students. I was happy in that time because Ma’am Susie were allowed me to do have that letters. There are five sections I handled in few months of student teaching but there’s only three sections that done goodbye letters for me. It was the sections of 10-Garnet, 10-Sapphire and 10-Diamond. When I read those letters many of them said that I am a joker and happy in the class but sometimes they said that I am a short-tempered and moody. They also said that they like me as their teacher because I am patient in their traits like being noisy and disobedient. They said that they will miss my strategy in calling them in recitation like strategy of “Give me a Number”. My students said that they will also miss our discussion every time we meet and because I’m a jokester sometimes.

Some of my students said that my voice was not modulated and sometimes it was not heard at the back. I heard that everyday to my cooperating teacher and to my students so I practice to modulate my voice sometimes. As a future teacher, I will do my best to turn my negative traits into positive traits. That’s why I we have a practice teaching to practice and train ourselves to become good and efficient teacher in the future. I realized that I should improve my discipline because I’m a role model to my students so I consider my doings and the words that I say. A good teacher is also a friend of a student so I try to be their friends in the school. Sometimes I’m a joker and say funny things that related to the topic. I do that because I don’t want to be a boring teacher in my students. Anyone doesn’t want to have a negative feedback so I try to improve these feedback  and I know it will complete the puzzle to become a good and efficient teacher in the future.
